Pamlico Ukulele Pluckers (PUP)

We play a variety of ukulele music, including (but not limited to) classic rock, folk, and a touch of old country. For folks who play instruments other than ukuleles, and for ukulele players wishing to play other types of traditional music such as bluegrass, the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association (BCTMA) Jams at Turnage Theater on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

We’re by no means professionals or entertainers – most of our music is suitable for beginners who know relatively few chords. We don’t teach, but there are tons of resources on YouTube and various websites. Expect us to make mistakes – we’re all learning. This is not a performance, it is a jam for ukulele enthusiasts of all levels. You can also find tons of songs at ozbcoz.com, where you can also change instruments, keys, and download songs as PDFs. Another great resource is Petey Mack — from his webpage, click on “arrangements”, and download the latest version (February 2023) of his “Petey Mack’s Singalong Book” (pdf). There are many other internet resources.

Upcoming Jam Dates

You can just show up for a jam session with your ukulele – perhaps also a tuner and a music stand (examples for paper and tablet). You can contact us ( ceuthophilus@gmail.com ) for the latest scheduled session if you’re not already on our email list.

We were meeting every other Monday at Main Cup at Little Inn (Facebook), a coffee shop at 210 W Main St, Washington NC, but turnout has been poor of late, and necessitated Main Cup staying open beyond normal hours, so the MONDAY DATES ARE CANCELED. On alternate weeks, there is the possibility of still meeting at various places in or near Washington, or by default at Main Cup, 3-5 pm on alternate SUNDAYs. LATELY, no one has showed up at all, so you might need to make some arrangements to ensure you have someone to strum with!! If you are psyched to take leadership of our little group, feel free to grab the reins – I (Steve) can still update the webpage for you.

Songs

We play off of our list of CURRENT SONGS (below) and try to be mindful to include a number with easy chords. If you plan to join in, you should download and print the songs for yourself, or download them to view on an iPad or similar device. You can download the songs individually as PDFs, from the list below, or you can grab them all at once as a zip file of individual song PDFs , or grab the current version of our songbook .

We have a small subset of songs we are practicing regularly, these are:

Don’t be intimidated by the songs with lots of chords – you can focus on playing along on the easier songs, and then on the harder ones, just chime in on the chords you are able to play. Gives you room to learn!

Need a ukulele? Check out our local Washington, NC music store: PC Sound. Additionally, we might have a spare uke at some jam sessions that you could use for the evening.

You can reach us at ceuthophilus@gmail.com.

Look for other ukulele groups.

Chuck Williams has some fretboard skills! But don’t let that intimidate you, some of us just barely eke out three chords.
A banjolele, played by Tom O’Brien.
Jim Hackney messing about with some of his fancy plucking. Most of us don’t play at this level, or even near it!
Wayne, at anchor, puts his ukulele skills to use while cruising aboard his sailboat.
