A typical SSB CQ goes like this:

โ€œCQ CQ Calling CQ. This is KC9CVH, Kilo โ€“ Charlie โ€“ 9 โ€“ Charlie โ€“ Victor โ€“ Hotel.โ€

When answering a CQ, keep the answer short. Say the call sign of the station once or twice, followed by your call:

โ€œN2EEC N2EEC, this is KC9CVH, Kilo โ€“ Charlie โ€“ 9 โ€“ Charlie โ€“ Victor โ€“ Hotel.โ€

On A Quiet Repeater.

If the repeater is quiet, pick up your microphone, press the switch, and transmit your call sign, for example:

โ€œThis is KC9CVH, monitoring. Kilo โ€“ Charlie โ€“ Nine โ€“ Charlie โ€“ Victor โ€“ Hotel.โ€

Or if you just want to see if the repeater is picking you up:

โ€œThis is KC9CVH, testing. Kilo โ€“ Charlie โ€“ Nine โ€“ Charlie โ€“ Victor โ€“ Hotel.โ€

LoTW information, login . This is the repository to use, but you should be using one of the popular logging programs, most likely n3fjp (among many others are: Ham Radio Deluxe, HAMRS, DXKeeper) to seamlessly do all the work through the ARRL TQSL app . Additionally, you may want to upload QSOs to QRZ from LoTW. For contesting, most folks prefer the login program N1MM.
