| Making Horns: Use aluminum foil to form the shape and cover it with paper clay (it’s much lighter than normal clay), get the shape as close as possible, then sand it down once it dries completely to smooth out the clay (then paint in layers and finish with clear varnish (you can get spray cans of it at Michaels). You can use magnets or wires to attach them to a wig or headband. For the wires, thread narrow, black wire through the clay at the base of the horns before they dry (or at least make the holes for the wire). | Making a Hed Mold (also as pdf file) From Comments section: As a lifecasting pro, [www.lifecastmemphis.com] may I offer some suggestions. You haven’t done anything so wrong but there are better techniques. Alginate won’t stay with the plaster bandage without a mechanical bond, so we pat the hardening algy with a ball of cotton or pillow stuffing so it has hairs embedded, which plaster bandage will stick to. This also means you can work quicker. Your bandage does not look like it was slicked, which makes a much cleaner texture. As you pull it out of warm water pan, smoosh the bandage and it will move the plaster to fill the gaps in the cloth. Another: I can’t tell if you filled the mould completely or just rolled around a slush cast, just be careful as that volume of plaster in one go can burst out if you haven’t reinforced your mould sufficiently……if you can rescue the alginate and it isn’t stuck to the mould then I like to drape it over a balloon and let it dry out slowly, it shrinks by about a third in size and then gives you the option of a mini-me version, or shrunken head version of your subject. Two casts for the price of one. | Mask Eye Hole Covers: Mask Eyehole Covers (youtube, this but smaller) combined with: this (walmart) or this (amazon) Painting Paper Mache: Cheap acrylic paint with (possibly generous amounts of) baking powder mixed in – this can add texture/hide paper. You can add a couple of coats of this in white before adding color without baking powder. |

With tablets, instead: You would warp the cards up, then follow the instructions from minute 9 for how to put that warped project onto the loom. You would just have the warped cards, instead of the heddle, on the warp. Your ends would already be cut, so at 11:50 you would not need to cut any threads, just even out the ends, and tie the knot. Skip the instructions from 11:50 to 14:10, as your cards are fully warped, and then follow the instructions on how to tension. The instructions with the loom also cover how to tie on the back, wrap, and tie on the front, and advance by turning the back board to let out more warp to advance, and re-clamping. |
